APPLYING LEARNED CONCEPTS IN BUSINESS SETTING

This Gantt Chart is a production control tool that I designed during my second semester as a Junior. I used it to support my solutions of a business case in a team contest, created and evaluated by Pandora Jewelry and Towson University. In this contest, I redesigned a supply chain of $15M worth of Pandora jewelry that was set to arrive and be sold in the United States by a close deadline. To do this, I decided to apply the project management skills that I had learned in college so far. I used Microsoft Project as tool to plan, budget, and oversee all aspects of this project. Just as learned in class, I created a Gantt Chart with this software to make sure that both the scope and budget of the project were on schedule.

The successful execution of this project helped me realize that I am able to apply my major’s content to solve real business problems. When my group finished presenting the solutions, we were praised by the Pandora judge panel for creating solutions that were highly similar to the one used in real life. They were also impressed with the level of professionalism and the tools we used to support our plan, such as the Gantt Chart. Additionally, my team was congratulated for setting the standards very high for the rest of the competition.

The right implementation of my major’s content had a huge weight on this achievement. It made me understand the role of a project manager in a company, the usefulness of the knowledge I have acquired throughout my college career, and how I can cross apply my skills as a project manager upon graduation.
